Kat and Jon tied the knot at St Peter’s Church in Hampton Lucy before heading over to their wedding reception at the stunning Compton Verney just down the road.

We started the day in Stratford-upon-Avon, where Jon got ready. Then we popped out for a few portraits on the streets in front of the classic black-and-white Tudor buildings – a perfect match for his black tie outfit, and such an easy way to add a bit of place and character to that part of the story.

St Peter’s in Hampton Lucy is pretty magnificent – the interior architecture could honestly belong to a cathedral. Compton Verney does have a small wedding chapel on site and it’s absolutely beautiful, but it doesn’t offer seating for many people, so it wasn’t quite right for this particular event.

After the ceremony, Kat and Jon drove back from the church in a silver Porsche Carrera, roof down, wind in their hair – bags of style. Guests arrived separately on an old-fashioned bus, which worked really well logistically and added a bit of theatre too. Everyone stepped off together, already chatting and laughing, and it kept the energy up as people moved into drinks and the start of the reception.

Compton Verney is such a brilliant space for receptions. The building has real presence, and the grounds are beautifully manicured, so you don’t have to go far to take some iconic wedding portraits. And if the weather turns, the interior spaces are great for indoor portraits – the art galleries in particular make a really interesting backdrop if you want something a bit different.

After the reception, they had fireworks outside in the grounds near the main building, with all their guests gathered together. It was a perfect moment to round off that part of the day before everyone headed back inside for the first dance and the party in the main hall.
